Steve TullgrenAs the president of Universal Plastics, Inc. and M&M Materials, both family-owned and operated commercial specialty subcontractors since 1969, Steve has been instrumental in his company’s success as an installer, distributor, and Apps partner. Throughout his distinguished tenure in the industry, Mr. Tullgren has achieved widespread recognition for his exceptional knowledge and the high-quality projects he delivers to customers. He has also garnered the attention of manufacturers and individuals from across the U.S., seeking his expertise and guidance when facing challenges or seeking answers to their questions.

Mr. Tullgren collaborates daily with estimators and the operations manager to ensure smooth project operations. He also supervises all bidding activities and has experience overseeing high-profile projects. He is an accomplished subcontractor specializing in installing wall panels in diverse types of buildings, including commercial structures, hospitals, airports, and schools.

Mr. Tullgren’s career began when he joined his father’s business at age 16. Initially overseeing deliveries and maintaining the premises, he continued to work 35 hours per week while attending high school and later starting college. Eventually, Mr. Tullgren’s father requested that he leave college to commit to the company full-time, ultimately taking it over. Under his leadership, Universal Plastics, Inc. has become renowned for its specialized service in custom panel systems, a niche few other companies offer in the U.S.

Mr. Tullgren’s educational background includes college coursework, which he credits as being foundational to his success. In addition to his professional achievements, he is an active member of the Associated Subcontractors Alliance of Sacramento, where he serves on the board of directors. Mr. Tullgren’s involvement in this organization underscores his commitment to advancing the subcontracting industry and fostering professional collaboration.

Beyond his professional life, Mr. Tullgren is deeply involved in civic activities. He supports Marshall Hospital and GiGi’s Playhouse and sponsors events for the Boys & Girls Clubs. These affiliations reflect his dedication to giving back to the community and supporting organizations that make a positive impact.

Mr. Tullgren attributes his accomplishments to his unwavering commitment, integrity, and perseverance in serving his company. These qualities have been instrumental in establishing Universal Plastics, Inc. as a leader in its field. As he prepares for the future, Mr. Tullgren plans to reduce his professional commitments and allocate more time to travel, aiming to minimize office hours and prioritize personal opportunities.

His wife Glenda’s love and support carry significant value for him, personally and professionally. Their oldest daughter, Lisa Tullgren, also started working in the family business at age 16 and did graduate college with a business degree. Lisa is the Chief Financial Officer and is the third generation of Universal Plastics, Inc. and M&M Materials. Steve and Glenda are looking forward to the third generation to keep the legacy going.
